Into My Vineyard February 2012

by Fr. Bryan Cunningham on 11/02/2012

Meeting of the Schoenstatt Family

Welcome to our ‘Into My Vineyard Meeting’. This year we focus on the Shrine as a place of being in God’s presence, a place of grace and spiritual growth, a place for the New Evangelisation spoken of by our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. We want to reach out to welcome new people. To download invite click here

We will change the dates and format of our Covenant Mass each month. A new initiative of Parish Shrine days extends an invitation to ten Parishes in Salford Diocese to spend a day at the Shrine. For this we need a new apostolic team to run the days. Our Taste and See Mass continues to invite especially young families to our Sunday Family Mass. This year we receive in the month of May/June a unique copy of the Pilgrim Mother Shrine from John Possabon which has been journeying in Europe and will be crowned as Mary Queen of the New Evangelisation in September 8th 2012. The Mosaic Prayer Garden is taking shape -  we look forward for an update in this gift to Our Lady for the year 2014. There will be time for the Branches to meet during the meeting to discuss and plan their programme  for the year. To download overview of programme towards 2014 click here

Taste and See Advent Family Mass

by Fr. Bryan Cunningham on 27/11/2011

You are invited to the Taste and See Advent Family Mass on Sunday 11th December at 3.30pm followed with a shared Meal  and our Advent Celebration for Christmas. Christmas means  so much for families. So many happy moments and some sad memories – for Christmas happens in real time and eternity. When we think of our children on Christmas morning, impatient in their vigil for the day to start so they can rush to the Christmas Tree then we join the shepherds of over two thousand years ago in the fields outside Bethlehem and ‘hurry off to find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.‘ For this child marks the beginning of the new and eternal covenant. God was faithful to His promise, and a new King was born in Bethlehem. So we can exclaim with the old man Simeon: “My eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared before all people, a light of revelation to the nations, and for glory to your people Israel!” (Luke 2:30-32). The Easter Tree – Holy Week

by Fr Duncan McVicar on 19/04/2011

A wonderful story from medieval times traces the wood of the cross on which Jesus died, all the way back to the Garden of Paradise, where God made grow “every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.” (Genesis 2,9) The great tree of Paradise is the “tree of life.” Seeds from the tree of life, our story goes, were planted from age to age, until the time of Jesus, when a tree produced from one of its seeds provided wood for his cross. Once again, God offers new life through the cross of Jesus, his Son, and invites the human family to return to Paradise. (more…)

Tell Them!

by Fr Duncan McVicar on 05/03/2011

Some 14 years ago, I stood watching my university students file into the classroom for our opening session in the theology of faith. That was the day I first saw Tommy. Tommy turned out to be my biggest challenge. He constantly objected to or smirked at the possibility of an unconditionally loving God. When he turned in his final exam at the end of the course, he asked in a slightly cynical tone, “Do you think I’ll ever find God?” “No,” I said emphatically. “Oh,” he responded. “I thought that was the product you were pushing.” “But, He will find you!” I said to him.
