Searching

by Fr. Bryan Cunningham on 08/11/2011

Searching A Talk in AdventAdvent is a time of searching – following the star which leads us to the Saviour of the world. Advent is a time of shelter seeking- God wants to find a home in our hearts. Advent is a time of change – our God transforms the manger of our hearts into the temple of his sacred presence. Advent is a time of hope – a light in the darkness lighting up our way. Welcome to our Talk in Advent at the Shrine on Thursday 17th November. You are invited to Holy Mass at 7.30pm followed by light refreshments. Then Fr. Bryan will lead us in an Advent Meditation. Taste and See Mass in November

by Fr. Bryan Cunningham on 03/11/2011

Welcome to our Taste and See Mass in November. In Baptism each of us is called to bring good news about Christ to many. The place where we bring this good news is first and foremost at home in our family. CelebratingInvite to Monthly Family mass at the Shrine Family Mass together at the Shrine encourages us to live in the joy of the Gospel and give support to other families in their search for God in their lives. In telling our own personal story we help others to express their journey of faith as an encounter with the living God. Mass starts at 3.30pm followed by a shared meal. Then Liz and Gerry will lead us in a time of reflection during which time our children will have their programme. We will finish for 6.30pm to download the poster Click here

All Saints Day Means Holiness is for All

by Fr. Andrew Pastore on 01/11/2011
A reflection on the meaning of Feast or Solemnity of All Saints, November 1 in the Roman Catholic Calendar, otherwise known as All Saints Day.

At age 16, I thought that aspiring to holiness was out of the question. If you really wanted to be holy, I thought, you had to be a priest, nun, or brother. And you had to spend your days doing “religious stuff” like praying, preaching, teaching catechism, or serving the poor. But I had developed an interest in the opposite sex and was headed toward a career in music. So I was disqualified. The best I could hope for was to avoid breaking the 10 commandments, get to confession when I failed, not miss Mass on Sunday and toss a few bucks in the collection each week. That way, I could at least make it to heaven after a stay in Purgatory. But true sanctity, that was out of my reach. (more…)
